The 39th Annual New Legacies: Contemporary Art Quilts exhibit is on view at The Lincoln Center Art Gallery through August 5. This juried exhibition features the current work of the finest national and international contemporary quilt artists. Art quilts accepted for exhibition exemplify innovation in quilting and surface design techniques as well as excellence in artistic composition and craftsmanship. The goal of the exhibition is to recognize the world’s finest contemporary quilt artists and to advance the art form.

The Art Gallery is open to the public 12-6 p.m., Wednesday and Friday. There is a virtual exhibit available on the webpage and an exhibit catalog for purchase through The Lincoln Center Box Office.

Awards Judges: Phil D. Jones

Vicki Carlson is a studio art quilter and fabric designer residing in Fort Collins, Colorado. Working with her hand dyed and hand painted fabrics along with other surface design techniques, she creates predominantly abstract quilts. Influenced by her traditional roots, her emphasis is on finding rhythm and unity through color and line. Her work has been juried into numerous regional and national exhibits and can be found in quilting publications as well as public and private collections.

Employing various surface design techniques Phil D. Jones’ work is implemented using a combination of hand and machine methods. Working in series, Jones explores ideas and themes in his medium. As a crossover artist, he experiments with fine art aesthetics and techniques through quilting. Phil's work has been featured in solo and group exhibits, including 6 international shows in other countries. Phil’s work has also exhibited at the U.S. Embassy, Bridgetown, Barbados and the U.S. Ambassadorial Mission, Pristina, Kosovo, on loan to the U.S. State Department’s Art in Embassies Program. Phil lives in Morrison, Colorado.

The daughter of an artist and a scientist, Niraja Lorenz began weaving as a teenager in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Quilting became Niraja’s passion in 1994. After years of creating original pieces, she began studying with world-renowned fiber artist Nancy Crow in 2007. After twenty years as a research psychologist, she is now a full-time studio artist and lives in Eugene, Oregon. Lorenz has exhibited extensively throughout North America, as well as in Europe, Australia, and Asia and won numerous awards for her artwork.
