FC Moves invites the Fort Collins community to its annual spring Open Streets event, slated this year for Sunday, June 4, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. along Landings Drive and Boardwalk Drive.

The route, just over a mile long, begins at Landings Drive and Horsetooth Road and continues south on Landings Drive to Boardwalk Drive. The route then continues on Boardwalk to Harmony Road. These street sections will be closed to automobile traffic and completely open to pedestrians, bicycles, skateboards, scooters, and other forms of active transportation.

Six activity hubs will be stationed along the route, and more than 70 local businesses are contributing to the event. One hub will be dedicated to live music and new this year is the addition of a Wellness Hub, with free fitness classes scheduled each hour in which anyone can participate.

“We’re so excited for the addition of more wellness-focused activities this year,” said AnnMarie Kirkpatrick, a program assistant with the City’s Active Modes program. “This further ties into Open Streets’ mission of providing an opportunity for folks to enjoy active modes of transportation in a fun, family-friendly atmosphere while fostering a sense of community around these activities.”

Participants are encouraged to use active modes of transportation to reach the event. Landings and Boardwalk are part of the City’s signed Remington Bikeway, and the route also intersects with the Troutman Bikeway. City bike maps are available at www.fcgov.com/bikemaps.

Access to residences and businesses on the route will be maintained. Homes, businesses, and organizations that do not have alternate access other than Landings or Boardwalk will be able to drive to their destinations with a volunteer escort.

Open Streets events have been enjoyed by many throughout the world. “Ciclovía” in Bogotá, Colombia, is credited with being a pioneer of Open Streets-style events, having its start in the 1970s.

In Fort Collins, Open Streets events have been held around the community since 2014, with pauses in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19.
