Accetta's An All-American

An

Colorado College rising senior Kendall Accetta earned All-America honors with a seventh-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase Saturday at the 2022 NCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track and Field Meet Thursday in Geneva, Ohio.

Accetta, from Portland, Ore., finished the race with a school-record time of 10:40.21, smashing her own previous record of 10:56.94, set in Thursday's preliminary race.

"It feels very surreal to be an All-American," Accetta said. "My goal for Nationals was to make it to the finals and then just see what I could do. I felt really strong going into the last 800 and was able to kick to get seventh place. Nationals has been such an awesome experience and I am so thankful for my coaches and teammates for believing in me and helping me get here. Go Tiger Nation!"

Accetta is the fifth Colorado College female to earn outdoor track and field All-America honors, and the first since Katie Sandfort finished third in the 10K in 2017. She also is the first Tiger, male or female, to earn All-America status in the steeplechase.

"What a great way for Kendall to end her season," head coach Katie Bretscher said. "She composed herself so well this entire championship. To run a 16-second personal best in the finals is incredible. She is very deserving of her All-American honors."
