Loveland issued the following announcement on Dec. 22.
Construction has begun on a concrete trail, a quarter-mile long and 10 feet wide, that will be the final link in the City of Loveland Recreation Trail’s 21-mile circuit around the city.
The Loveland Parks & Recreation Department is managing the project that connects the fast-developing Copper Ridge subdivision just north of 57th Street and west of U.S. Highway 287 with the Sunset Vista Natural Area.
The new connector features a pedestrian bridge crossing a wetland area to access a new, mile-long soft-surface trail within the 87-acre natural area. The Copper Ridge Connector Trail also provides access to the regional Long View Trail that takes users north to Fort Collins. In addition, negotiations are under way with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway for the trail to cross its tracks, with that construction anticipated in Spring 2021.
The long-awaited closure of the Recreation Trail’s missing link also provides a much safer alternative to the hazardous route along 57th Street where cyclists and pedestrians have faced a steep grade and narrow shoulder. Construction begins this week with completion anticipated in June 2021.
