The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash that happened after a vehicle fled from law enforcement early Sunday morning.

According to the sheriff’s office, around 4:15 a.m. on February 1, 2026, a deputy observed a car missing lights and a license plate near East 57th Street and North Garfield Avenue in Loveland. As the deputy turned to stop the vehicle, the driver turned off all lights and sped away before any traffic stop could be initiated.

The deputy then activated emergency lights and sirens, but the suspect continued to flee at speeds reaching up to 120 mph northbound on I-25. The pursuit continued as the vehicle exited at Mountain Vista and eventually traveled east on Vine Drive/Weld County Road 84.

The incident ended when the driver lost control near Pheasant Crest Drive and WCR 84. The car struck a power pole and rolled over, ejecting two male occupants. One man was pronounced dead at the scene; another was taken to an area hospital where he died. A third person inside the vehicle, a woman, was extricated by emergency crews and transported for medical care. No other injuries were reported.

Authorities stated that deputies did not make contact with or use intervention techniques on the fleeing vehicle before it crashed. The LCSO CRASH team and Forensics Unit processed the scene. The Weld County Coroner’s Office will identify those who died at a later time.

“LCSO would like to thank the Colorado State Patrol, Timnath Police Department, Fort Collins Police Services, Poudre Fire Authority, and UCHealth ambulance crews for their assistance during this incident.”
