Tuition for Colorado residents attending Colorado State University-Fort Collins rose by 4.4% for the 2022-23 school year, as revealed in the most recent report, according to the latest disclosure from the National Center for Education Statistics.

This year, in-state students paid $12,874 to attend the four-year public university, an increase of $614 from the $12,260 charged during the 2021-22 academic year.

Non-resident students faced tuition costs that were 154.3% higher than those for residents in 2022-23, amounting to $32,734. This represents a 3.8% rise from the $31,540 charged in the previous year.

Approximately 59% of the undergraduate student body at the university are Colorado residents, while about 40% come from other states.

Financial aid was awarded to 74% of full-time undergraduates who began their studies at Colorado State University-Fort Collins in 2022-23. A total of 3,801 students received grants or scholarships worth $40.1 million, and 2,022 students obtained student loans exceeding $18.6 million.

Across all undergraduate students, 13,981 individuals benefited from grants or scholarships totaling $159 million. Additionally, 7,963 students secured federal student loans amounting to $49.9 million.

Undergraduate education costs have seen a significant increase over the past few decades. Data shows a 169% rise in the average total cost, including tuition, fees, room, and board, between 1980 and 2020.

According to a 2023 College Board report, in-state students at public universities paid an average of $11,260, while out-of-state students paid $29,150 in the 2023-24 academic year.

Meanwhile, student loan debt has steadily increased over the last 30 years, reaching $1.75 trillion in 2024, averaging a total of $28,950 per borrower. Federal loans make up 92% of the debt, with over half of students at both public and private four-year colleges graduating with student loans.
