Colorado State University’s women’s volleyball team saw two players receive recognition from the Mountain West Conference following their recent performances. Eve Wilson was named Defensive Player of the Week, while Erin Debiec earned Freshman of the Week honors for their roles in matches against Air Force and Wyoming.
Wilson noted that the awards reflected not only individual achievement but also collective team effort. “It kind of helped us realize that we played a really nice and cohesive weekend,” Wilson said. “I think a lot of things came together nicely and, especially when Erin wins an award, that means everybody was firing on all cylinders and we had a really balanced offense.”
The team has emphasized maintaining a balanced offense throughout the conference season as changes to the front line require frequent adjustments. Libero Aine Doty, one of the more experienced members of the squad, spoke about her approach to supporting teammates during these transitions. “I think, no matter who comes on the court, I want to uplift my teammates no matter what,” Doty said. “No matter who they are I want to communicate with them about what shots are open and just give them confidence, especially if they are coming on the court during a really tight game.”
The Rams have shown improvement in closing out matches under pressure and are currently on a four-game winning streak. Looking ahead, Wilson commented on how success does not alter their preparation: “Even if we had a good weekend, it doesn’t change how hard we work in practice the next day,” she said. “We’re trying to keep the momentum from how we start the game.”
Doty highlighted unity as a key value for Colorado State Volleyball. “One of the core values of our team is unity,” she said. “So, it’s just continuing to have that unity even if we’re getting smoked by the other team. Knowing that we always have each other’s back builds that trust for when we play harder teams.”
With upcoming home matches against Fresno State on October 30 and San Jose State for their annual Orange Out event on November 1, Colorado State aims to continue its positive run at Moby Arena.
