Colorado State University’s women’s volleyball team secured a 3-0 win over the University of Wyoming Cowgirls on Saturday, reversing their previous five-set loss in Laramie earlier this season. The Rams won with set scores of 25-15, 25-17, and 25-18 at home.

The memory of the earlier defeat was evident in the team’s approach from the first serve. “We definitely came out fired up,” said Erin Debiec. “We didn’t want to lose to them again and we took it personally.”

CSU’s urgency helped separate them from Wyoming early in the match. The Rams ended with a .312 hitting percentage compared to Wyoming’s .090.

Halle Jameson contributed her sixth double-double of the season, finishing with 10 kills and 12 digs. She commented, “I knew I was going to come out and work as hard as I could. I was hoping this is how it would end up, but I’m just really proud of all the work I’ve put in to get to this place. I’m so happy this is where I’m at now.”

Coach Emily Kohan highlighted the depth on CSU’s roster: “We have 17 players on this team for a reason. They can all contribute in a lot of ways. I think we’re going to be really good this year. And there’s also looking ahead to next year, when all these kids are coming back.”

This depth has led CSU to an 8-2 record and second place in the Mountain West Conference standings.

Debiec added that confidence is building within the squad: “We’re building confidence and our passing is becoming really solid. We have some really good attackers who can get to the ball in many situations and it’s working.”

Despite facing one of the conference’s top blocking teams, CSU registered 12 blocks while limiting Wyoming to five.

Kekua Richards and Eve Wilson played key roles at the net for CSU. Kohan said, “This is one of my favorite box scores of the year. It reminds me of 2019, one of our best years since I’ve been here, because Eve and Kekua, as middles, are getting set in the 20s, equal to some of the pin hitters. That’s a tough thing to do, to be able to ball handle.”

Kohan also emphasized consistency moving forward: “We’re ironing out that we can do stuff like this consistently… This is what we expect every single day and we’re becoming more consistent.”

The Rams will continue their campaign by hosting Fresno State next Thursday at Moby Arena.
